Dr. James Koretz, DMD

In June 1983, Dr. James Koretz started a dental practice on East 76th Street with a dream to provide exceptional dental care to the surrounding Upper East Side neighborhood. Four decades later, Dr. Koretz is still realizing this vision, with an unwavering commitment to provide his patients outstanding dentistry, maximize their health, and create smiles for generations.

A native New Yorker born in Stuyvesant Town, Dr. Koretz was selected for an accelerated program and graduated Bayside High School at age 16. He later graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Political Science at the age of 20.

Recognizing the social, professional and artistic opportunities afforded by dentistry, Dr. Koretz switched gears and was admitted to the University of Pennsylvania’s outstanding Dental School. After graduating in 1981 with a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree, he came home to New York City to open his practice.

Unlike practices run by behemoth chains or private equity firms, Dr. Koretz is singularly dedicated to creating long-term relationships with his patients and their families, keeping them comfortable, happy, and informed, while providing the best dental care. He treats each patient individually, with attention to their needs and expectations, and provides full transparency about treatment plan options. His patients are equally loyal: ranging in age from 10 to 100, from new patients to those who have been returning for more than 30 years.

In short: our patients like going to the dentist.

Beyond the dental chair, Dr. Koretz is the proud father of three sons and has been married to his wife Jodie (who doubles as his office manager) for almost 40 years. He enjoys exploring New York City restaurants, has a passion for all genres of live music, as well as the New York Knicks, Badger football and basketball. He keeps in shape playing basketball and jogging with his German Shepherd Hutch along North Stamford country roads.

Dr. Koretz is equally proud to have created a boutique dental experience like no other, rooted in 40 years of expertise, compassion, and a commitment to pain-free, conservative dentistry. The opportunity to have his son Dr. Jesse Koretz join him to continue his legacy is a culmination of the dream he envisioned four decades ago.

Dr. Jesse Koretz, DDS

Dr. Jesse Koretz is the newest member of the practice, though dentistry has been part of his life since he was born. Raised as the youngest of three brothers in Stamford, Connecticut, Dr. Jesse’s journey into the profession was driven by a passion for both contemporary scientific advances as well as the aesthetics of creating beautiful, healthy smiles.

Dr. Koretz embarked on his academic journey at the University of Texas at Austin, where he pursued his undergraduate studies in Biology and Business Foundations, ensuring a well-rounded approach to patient care that transcends the clinical realm. Dr. Koretz received a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Touro College of Dental Medicine, where his academic prowess and commitment to excellence led to his selection as a distinguished member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the national dental honor society. Seeking to broaden his horizons and refine his expertise, Dr. Koretz then completed a two-year general practice residency at Mount Sinai Hospital where he focused on endodontics and oral implantology.

Jesse is privileged to have observed the strong relationships his father has cultivated throughout his career, and he is dedicated to further nurturing and expanding upon this foundation. He is unwavering in his commitment to maintain and elevate the exceptional dental care legacy that the practice has upheld for the past four decades.

Beyond dentistry, Jesse enjoys exploring New York City’s culinary scene, attending live music concerts (the apple does not fall far from the tree), and rooting for the Texas Longhorns. He competes in basketball and softball leagues, sweats it out in hot yoga, and golfs on the weekends when he can get out of the city.

Through his modern-day training, he has developed a mastery of the intricate nuances of advanced techniques and is genuinely dedicated to his patients’ well-being. Joining Dr. James Koretz in a state-of-the-art, patient-centric dental practice, he is committed to ensuring that every patient under his care receives the highest standard of treatment, with a personalized and compassionate experience at every level.
